About Nikmani

Bookkeeping built by people who lived the problem.

Nikmani started at a family dinner table in Toronto, not in a boardroom. Here's how that happened, and who's actually behind it.

Niki moved to Canada to study. Over the years that followed, she built real relationships with the small business owners around her: the nail salon she'd gone to for years, the beauty salon, the local farmer's market, the vet who looked after her cat, the groomer she trusted. Not customers she passed once. People whose slow seasons she knew, whose opening-day dreams she'd heard about, whose quiet exhaustion she recognized.

Underneath all of it, the same worry kept coming up. Tax season would arrive and nobody felt ready. Nobody had a clear picture of where the money was going, or whether the business was actually making any. The software built to help them was made for someone with an accounting background, not for the person who'd just spent 12 hours on her feet doing the work she loved.

"The tools were built for someone with an accounting degree. Not for the woman who'd spent 12 hours on her feet doing what she loved."

Niki brought it to her family, not as a pitch, but as a question. Her father Mohsen had spent 25 years in senior finance roles and knew exactly where these systems tend to break. Her brother Mani had studied finance in Canada and understood the tax side from the inside. Her husband Reza had spent over a decade in marketing and partnerships, and kept asking how business owners actually talk about money when nobody's trying to sell them anything. The idea didn't arrive fully formed. It took a while. But with the right people in the room, a bookkeeping app took shape.

That's where the name comes from too: Niki and Mani, the two who started it. There's a smaller reason baked in as well. Nik sounds like nickel. Mani sounds like money. A small, almost accidental reminder of what the whole thing is actually for.
